Maybe I'm just old, but I find the new look harder to read.

I like the look and then this laughter came into my head when I thought about re-alphabetizing the buddy list without changing the comments and seeing how the comments matched up with the new diaries they'd be mated with... strange random comments might be amusing... sending you good thoughts tonight from a strange random mind right here in this strange random comment :)

I like it! Very warm! I have to get around to figuring out what I want for mine... stripped it down after the dland meltdown, and don't know what to put up there yet... have to design pages for "ms-m" and "marn" first though! All my best, Joey.

I likes it. It's hard to read but functionality is and should be secondary to aesthetics. Importantly, you're now representin' on the gothic look. Your blog now looks like it wants to shout, "Blah! I am vampire! I vant VYSIVG veb design program with more features! Blah!"

Functionality secondary to aesthetics? What are you smoking? It all depends on the purpose of the site.

Is it just to look nice? Then go aesthetics. Do you want people to read it and interact with it, then you're a short-sighted fool if you let aesthetics get in the way of readability.

I find the comments damn'd near impossible to read. As for the site itself, I would go with slightly larger type size, a slightly wider central column width and a little more contrast between text color and background color. Just a few tweaks and you've got the look you want and it's readable too.

Aesthetics need not be entirely sacrificed for functionality but they must serve the purpose of the site.

Sorry for double post - Diaryland comments were being wonky.

This is basically reminding me just how badly I need to get on the redesign of my own site. It still looks like a bag of ass in Firefox. I really like it, Sydney, although if I could channel Matthew Perry for a moment - could the comment board text BE any smaller?

I'm a little older than Magpie, and agree that it's hard to read... In fact I think I strained my eyes trying just now reading the comments! Colors etc. are nice, but reading it hurts really does hurt my eyeballs.

I do like the new look - very stunning. As for Dland, I'm having trouble with my buddy list as now it isn't showing the new ones or the comments I've made. Poor Andrew, I wonder if he's pulled out all his hair by now?
