Happy First B-Day Torben!
2004-09-12 12:59 a.m.

It was a good day to turn one years old. I don't think I've ever been to a kid's birthday party before where so much red wine was drunk. I managed to get a couple of shots with my camera phone.

Dad making a toast for Torben who can't wait to start destroying his cake.

Cappy and Sierra demonstrate the proper way to blow out candles.

Coltrane begs Teri to save his dignity by removing his party hat. Later on I walked into the house in time to see Coltrane run inside with the hat stuck over his nose. He ran right up to mom and stabbed her in the boob with the tip. Ouch!

Ripping, eating, drinking and scanning.
2004-09-11 12:16 p.m.

On Thursday night my friend Chris came over with two big bags of CDs and we ripped late into the evening. We've been asked to DJ at my friend's birthday party so we're taking the easy way out by making a bunch of mixed CDs. We tried the Delivered Dish restaurant delivery service and found that it worked great. The food came exactly at the time we requested and the hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. Yum. Rebecca stopped by later and had some wine with us.

Last night I had my CT scan. (No actual cats were involved.) They put me on this platform thing in a sexy hospital gown and I got slid back and forth under this big thing that looked like a giant stainless steel cheerio. It moved around and irradiated my spine. I won't know what's what until Monday when the report is done and my doc calls me.

I really wanted to see the CZ sketch show but I didn't get out of the hospital until late. I know they were fabulous and hysterical.

Dear blog, you make me sick.

"Keeping a diary is bad for your health, say UK psychologists. They found that regular diarists were more likely than non-diarists to suffer from headaches, sleeplessness, digestive problems and social awkwardness.

'We expected diary keepers to have some benefit, or be the same, but they were the worst off,' says Elaine Duncan of the Glasgow Caledonian University. 'In fact, youre probably much better off if you dont write anything at all,' she adds."

The top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back:

1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father."

4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again."

6. Basketball analyst: "He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces."

7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field."

9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my God, what have I just said?"

Klingon Karaoke and other tales of mirth.
2004-09-09 10:04 a.m.

Zoinks Im tired this morning. I wanted to go to bed early last night, like around six, but I forced myself to go to improv because silly me signed up for a show. Ive been putting it off, telling everyone Id sign up after Id done improv for a year. Well, guess what, its been a year.

Last night we worked on our favorite games and the ones we hate. I got to do a foreign film dub where I spoke in gibberish Czech. I played another game where they stuck a sticker to my forehead and I had to figure out what I was during the scene (a platypus).

Then I made my way over to Chopsticks for karaoke goodness. Actually, I didnt sing this time, I just swilled a couple pints of microbrews and watched everyone else. Rebecca was out of her cast but still using her crutches and Jessie Jessie Party Girl is confined to a wheelchair. Some day soon Im going to organize a race where they have to use walkers.

Funny quote from the Karaoke Forever website: "I'm a KJ at a cool place in Portland, Oregon called Chopsticks Express. The funniest thing I've ever seen is when a bunch of guys came in dressed up like Klingons and sang all their songs in Klingon. -The Duke"

In other news, I purchased the domain name for kungfupublishing.com (dont bother going there as it will just take you back here) and need to start getting the structure of what I want ready for my fabulous programmer. Its going to be my cheesy self promotion writing site. Hopefully it will be filled with fiction, goodies, t-shirts, really bad artwork (mine) and some nice artwork (not mine).

I should probably get some work done this morning. Le sigh.

Random literary pursuits.
2004-09-08 3:26 p.m.

My brain pretty much packed up and went home after lunch so I'm killing some time looking up some out of print books until it's time for my body to go home. For some reason I suddenly wondered if anyone had written a biography about Branwell Bronte. I found a copy for one penny on Amazon. Yep, one penny. With the $3.49 shipping it will cost me a whopping $3.50.

Branwell has always struck me as an interesting character. He was just as brilliant as his sisters when he was a child. He wrote just as prolifically. His problems started when he faced adulthood. He was a failed writer, a failed portrait painter and eventually fell into debt and became an alcoholic. He died of "consumption" at the tender age of 31.

Below is a famous portrait of his sisters that Branwell painted. You'll notice that he tried to obliterate his own image in the middle leaving a ghostly visage on the canvas. (I think it goes Emily, Anne and Charlotte but don't quote me on that.)

Wouldn't he make a great vampire? Just what I need to do, bastardize another great mind. Now where did I put my notebook?

Slacktastic.
2004-09-08 10:27 a.m.

Im beyond tired. I couldnt get in a comfortable position for my back last night and tossed and turned until 2:00am. I finally fell asleep and had a nice sexy dream about a crime scene photographer. Thats what happens when you watch five episodes of CSI back to back; actually I was rather surprised that I didnt dream about blood, gore, poison and murder. I actually dreamed about something nice.

I cant believe its already Wednesday. After five slacktastic days I have to relearn how to wake up early in the morning and do something productive. Something other than drink half a pot of coffee and read biographies while a cat purrs in my ear.

It has also come to my attention that I have two brown skirts and no brown shoes (20 pairs of black, but no brown) so Im going shopping during lunch for cheap yet high quality Italian shoes. Wish me luck.

Socially exiled is hard to get these days.
2004-09-07 4:15 p.m.

*Yawn* Ask me what I did today. Nothing: I slept, did dishes, played with the cats and read my book. I'm reading about Jane Williams who was Shelley's last idealized female lust interest before he died. She seems to have lead an interesting life but had a limited intellect. She could sing and play music, maybe that's what he liked about her - her own artistic genius. According to her portrait, she wasn't exactly hard on the eyes either.

You know, it takes a lot to be socially exiled these day. I mean no one bats an eye at adultery and atheism any more.

On a side note, mad props to Acronym who let me force him to watch Cowboy Bebop The Movie with me and unload all the leftovers on him. Oh yeah, and for stealing the quote I was going to put at the top of this entry today.

Notes from a domestic prisoner.
2004-09-06 12:00 p.m.

The writing group last night was fun. Interesting people writing interesting things. I was thrilled to find that we had an erotica writer. Now I have someone to help me with my sex scenes (writing them).

I'm being domestic today. I'm throwing some food in the slow cooker and cleaning house while watching the Law and Order marathon. I may even do something outrageous like take a nap later.

With my stupid back pain I've had to give up some of my exercise time so instead I've been reading non stop and teaching myself how to draw. I should have two new drawing books showing up tomorrow. I'm getting the hang of drawing heads but getting the proper proportions for bodies is still eluding me. My people are too narrow with unbelievably long legs.
