Good Bye.
2004-03-14 12:00 p.m.

I was downloading my dial-up mail yesterday and there was nearly 500 e-mails as I haven't checked it since January. No one really uses that address anymore as I have about five other online accounts I use more often. My dialup account I've had for eight years and the e-mail address is easy to memorize. I was highlighting all the e-mails to do a brutal deletion when a subject line caught my eye.

"Logan Marsh, our friend died."

I opened up the e-mail dated sometime last month and found out that one of my buddies from high school had slipped into a coma for an unkown reason and died. I tried to get a picture of him in my mind and ran to my tiny photo album of high school photos and I found the news clipping from his wedding. He'd married a girl from my class and gone off to join the marines. He then became a pastor. Then this year died mysteriously.

It just hit home that I'm at the age now where friends are going to start dying. In the past it was always freak accidents or drug overdoses. Now it's going to be illnesses, heart attacks, strokes or something sudden and unknown. Damn. This getting old buisness kind of sucks.

I remember Logan as someone who always came to my parties, wouldn't drink but would be more fun and obnoxious than the rest of us. He had an amazing sense of humor. I remember we played a lead in a short play together. He was very talented. I imagine his sermons must have been very entertaining! ~sigh~ Bye Logan.

The old country.
2004-03-13 12:02 p.m.

My neighbor Ed is from the old country. At least that is what he tells me every time we talk. I'm not exactly sure which old country he is from, my guess is Sweeden. He ran away from home and joined the merchant marines when he was 13 years old. He lied and said he was 17. He told me when he joined and when he got out, so I did the math and figure that Ed was born sometime during the pleistocene era. Ed's little dog Schultzie died last year and Eds been fairly lonely. However, I noticed that my neighbor's cat, Stripey Girl, has been going over to vist Ed. She'll cross the street, go up on his porch and make a racket until he comes out and pet her. It's rather sweet.

Also: props to John who tested for his Orange sash all by himself last night! Nice going! Pictures coming soon.

Bus question.
2004-03-11 12:15 p.m.

So I was throwing back a couple of beers with some boys last night and I asked the question: Why do school buses have those chains that hang down between the rear wheels that sometimes drag on the ground? What exactly are the used for? We came up with some mildly plausible theories but nothing seemed quite right. I did some googling this afternoon and didn't come up with much except for one excerpt from the Madison County Eagle which states: "School buses are rear-wheel drive and only a few have drop-down chains to help traverse slick roadways. The drop-down chains can be deployed and retracted on the fly by the driver." So are those drop down chains? I then decided to call the one man I know who knows the answer to every single question ever asked. My father, who of course, wasn't home. I wanted to ask him because "drop down chains" also shows up relating to fire trucks and as a retired firefighter he should know exactly what they are. I throw the question out to you folks. What the heck are those chains that hang down on buses?

In other news, the girls intuitive group will be a long session tomorrow and Camilla from 3 Flowers will be there. Yay! She communes with plants and her products are some of the coolest things I've even bought. Personally I like the aromatherapy stuff the best. Whenever my coworkers are freaking out I run over and spritz them with the Divine Blessings spray. Yes, they all think I'm nuts but the workplace would be boring without me here.

I was going through some files and I know I posted this a long time ago but it's so freakin funny that I have to post it again. The first one is my favorite although they all make me laugh. I think my dad originally sent this to me.

Near Death, Kung Fu and Nascat.
2004-03-10 10:08 a.m.

Nothing wakes you up like having a near death experience on your way to work. I was crossing the street (legally, I had the little walk light and everything) and a Lexus decided to run the red light and me over. Luckily I dodged out of the way, if I wasn't so worried about spilling my grande shot in the dark I would have given his pretty bumper a nice dent. If the homeless aren't trying to kill me, it's the rich.

The nice thing about being a slacker and going to beginning kung fu class is that you end up being the highest ranked student and get asked to lead the coveted five minute warm up. I even got props for my yoga inspired non traditional sun salutation style warm up.

You know, I'm hoping in ten years they have bionic knees because I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a couple, ankles too probably. Kung fu class consisted of a fun exercise that was a mixture of chi sao and push hands. Then I got to teach Debra some old/new techniques. I love teaching and I think I actually taught her everything correctly. Then it was back to my very first form and making sure that all my horse stances were low. Low low low. Low enough to balance a glass of water on my thigh. Hence, the need for new knees and ankles today. How many times did I hear "Lower! Lower! Lower!" last night?

I tried to go to bed before midnight last night. The cats decided to play Nascar (Nascat?) around the hard wood floors for about an hour. I swear to god, tonight I'm drugging their food. Speaking of cats, here's a cute picture of my man, Loki. Named after the Nordic god of chaos for obvious reasons.

When I grow up.
2004-03-09 9:29 a.m.

Occupations I want to have:

Novelist - Still working on this once since I was six years old.

Yoga Instructor - Been taking notes on how to create an ongoing yoga class for martial artists.

Librarian - I want to surround myself with books and research 24/7. However, it'd be nice to make wads of cash while I do this.

Trust Fund Baby - I can drink Paris Hilton under the table any day.

Bounty Hunter - You get to kick down doors and aim guns at people and it's all legal (well sort of!). Think Stephanie Plum.

Physician's Assistant - I'd like to deal with people's every day aches and pains and if they're too screwed up you get to refer them to a specialist.

English Professor - I want people to call me Dr. Kungfukitten or Prof. I'd teach Victorian and Medieval lit with some Shakespeare classes during the summer during trips to England.

Spy - The cold war is over but there's still nefarious forces at work. I could seduce my way through Europe and the Middle East and bring back top secret documents.

Body Guard - I may look small and harmless but I am a trained killer. Maybe not killer, I'm a trained maimer. License to wound.

The weekend update:
2004-03-08 9:44 a.m.

This weekend was full of ups and downs. Friday night I went to a fun birthday party with people I knew and people I didn't know. It's always funny when people introduce me then when they say "You know, kungfukitten." people nod and say "Oh yeah." Drank vodka and diet coke, smoked two cigarettes, discussed literature and how nice boyfriends are on call for burrito delivery.

Saturday, felt weird, sad, depressed so I totally embraced that emotion and shuffled around the house all day moaning, sipping coffee, beating my ample chest and rending my clothes. I got bored with that about three o'clock when I cleaned myself up pretty and drove down to Frye's electronics for a spending spree. Purchased the following items: 40gig iPod (worship me), flash card reader, 12 blank CDs and a live Peter Murphy CD. I was looking for a photo quality printer but couldn't figure out what I wanted so I'm holding off to do more research. I only spent 1/3 of my tax refund. *Damn you Multnomah County tax!*

Saturday night I went out with a friend form Seattle and her PDX boyfriend. Holed up in the Aalto Lounge sipping red wine and discussing, of course, sex. Doesn't every late night conversation turn to that subject?

Woke up at 6:00am with the mother of all migraines. I figured that's why I was feeling so craptacular on Saturday. Took pills and threw up alternately until about noon when my body finally accepted the medication and calmed the aching pain in my skull. Gawd I hate migraines. I can handle the every day painful headaches I get, it's the migraines that make me want to kill myself.

Sunday I purchased loads of music from the iTunes music store, burned some CDs and did laundry. I really need to go grocery shopping but just didn't feel like leaving the house. Plus my pasty face and drug induced dilated eyes probably would have scared children so it was good that I locked myself in for the day.
