One of the caveats about self-publishing is that while the title would be available to order, B&N usually will not stock the book on the shelves in the stores because it's a non-returnable book. At least that's how it is in most cases. But if you can sell enough then maybe the status would be changed. Either way,you'd be published and that's a start at least.
