I just got an e-mail from a friend at work who volunteers at the local humane society:

For those of you who didn't know, or may have forgotten, the Humane Society sponsors pictures of your pets (and you, if you want) with Santa Claus! One weekend of opportunity has passed, but this weekend has a few more Fred Meyer locations available for pictures. Here's the info: Not only do you get the photos, you get the negatives as well...you can use these to make photo holiday cards!

Seven Injured in Freak Pet Photography Incident. Santa in Critical Condition. Local Woman Taken Into Custody

Associated Press, November 13, 2001.

What started out as a festive feel good weekend at Johnson Creek Fred Meyers ended in pandemonium as "Santa Claus" was mauled by two ill behaved cats during their photo sitting.

"I knew something bad was going to happen when I heard that growling from the cat carrier. I thought they had a badger in there." Santa is quoted saying as he was wheeled into a waiting ambulance and rushed to the OHSU critical care unit. Six elves were treated on site for minor injuries.

Cat owner, Kung fu Kitten, who works at an undisclosed local insurance company was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and intent to scratch. "I thought it would make a cute Christmas card." she is quoted as saying as she was hand cuffed and put in the back seat of a squad car. "They're not bad cats. They're just misunderstood."

The cats were last seen hot wiring a Miata in the Fred Meyer's parking lot.

"They're probably heading to Vegas. They'll come home when they run out of money, they always do." Kitten said before they drove off.
